These Shoes Were Made for Running!

January 16, 2009

Ok… after a slight hiccough about whether I was going to be able to run or not I finally got the call to say YES! I was part of it so needed to get myself some decent kit (that wasnt covered in paint!).

After the recommendation from JJ I visited Up and Running and felt like a complete pratt with my jeans rolled up to my knees, running on a treadmill in the middle of a shop in Manchester with people watching!

There I met a lovely lady who discovered through the magic of technology (laptop and video camera) that I ran funny!! In other words pulled my ankles in (Overpronation – if you wanted the posh term! Oooh). So she got out some special trainers (for special people like me), which have built-in supports on the inside and put me back on the treadmill and got me running straight. Maybe this explained why my ankles always hurt after I used to run a while ago.

I also picked up (on my travels this evening) some sports socks, tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt so now I have got all the gear… but no idea!!

Walk Before You Can Run

Sankey Valley Park

Sankey Valley Park

It starts…

In typical British fashion we planned our first route last night 1.6 miles down to Sankey Valley Park and back just to get started and guess what? Yep it started raining, but undeterred we braved the elements! We even had company (Dave and Kirsty from round the corner!).

We wanted to go out for a brisk walk to begin with as we didnt want to overdo it and put ourselves off.

So the walking went well, we kept up a good pace throughout and even managed to jog some short distances and it felt good. On getting home we actually felt pretty refreshed (though it could have been to do with the rain! lol) and we definately slept well!

We have decided we want to try and go out every other night to begin with (weather permitting – a little drizzle is fine, downpour? No thanks!).
